Gutter Replacement in Denver: Why Undersized Gutters Fail in Front Range Downpours

Most Denver homeowners replace gutters for the wrong reason. They see a sag, a rust streak down the siding, or a section that pulled loose after a storm, and they order the same size gutter that just failed. A few months later, water is sheeting over the front edge again during a July thunderstorm.

The real problem is usually capacity being inadequate. Denver rain doesn’t fall in a steady drizzle. It comes in 5-10 minute bursts that push more water off the house than a standard residential gutter was ever designed to carry. Read the middle rows again. An 1,800 square foot plane draining into one run of 5-inch gutter is over capacity in a typical Denver storm. That’s not a defect in the gutter, it’s a poor sizing decision someone made years ago. Signs it’s replacement, not repair
